An internship is a professional learning experience that gives students a chance to gain practical work experience in their field of study or career interest. However, finding the best internship opportunities may sometimes be difficult. And knowing what best fits you can be a challenge.
One key agenda of our office is to enhance future employability and provide guidance to students to achieve career goals.
At our March 21, 2024, Career Café event, industry experts, who have thrived successfully in their specific fields, shared insights and experiences on the topic “Internship 101: Everything You Need to Know about Internships”
This program aimed to emphasize the importance of internships for undergraduate students and guide them in optimizing such opportunities.

Preparation and Planning
Students aspiring to engage in internship opportunities should prioritise aligning their skills and goals with the organisation they are interested in.
Building Skills and Capacity
The significance of developing industry-specific skills and general IT proficiency was emphasised, with resource persons confirming that these abilities enable students to distinguish themselves and be better prepared for consideration by potential employers.
Networking and Exploration
Students were encouraged to enhance their networking skills by actively participating in capacity-building programs and forging meaningful connections with individuals who have the potential to link them to opportunities, enhance their skills, and contribute to their overall career development journey.
Volunteerism
Students were advised to recognize the significance of volunteerism, which although unpaid, offers valuable opportunities to develop skills, integrate into corporate culture, and gain industry-specific experiences. The emphasis is on building value to deliver value and receive value in return.
Contributing to the future employability of the students conversation, this activity seeks to be repetitive and seeks to impact the students continuously in the same weight.
